City of Lost Souls – Sebastian

I only recently finished City of Lost Souls and I thought it was amazing. Even though there was a lot going on in the storyline. I want to talk about the baddie of the book, Sebastian. Now I must admit that being a book junkie I love a good villain to get the story going. So reading the book I found Sebastian was an amazingly written character  that seemed to make your blood turn to ice.

When we were first introduced to Sebastian as a villain during the end of City of Glass we all thought he was pure evil and demonic. Especially when we found out that he kissed his own sister and killed a little boy in cold blood. I find it safe to say that we were all glad when Jace killed him.

Then, I find it embarrassing to say that during the first part of Clary’s stay in the Apartment with Jace and Sebastian during City of Lost Souls, I doubted Sebastian’s evilness. Especially when he saved Clary from the demons in Paris. Oh, how wrong I was. Although there were little hints as to his true nature, I thought that you could see he wanted more from Clary than just a sister and then the meeting with Meliorn revealed a little as well.

Then towards the very end we completely see Sebastian’s true nature, and I hope I wasn’t the only one with tingles through my spine and with blood that had turned to ice when this happened. Sebastian looses his cool, calm boy facade and you quickly hate him for everything he is and has done. You get to see Clary in Shadowhunter mode and Sebastian’s twisted idea’s about Clary and the world. I shuddered when he licked the blood off her cheek.

Sebastian may be some evil demonic thing that we all hate but he makes a great Bad Guy for a great story. I can’t wait for City of Heavenly Fire to see what Cassandra Clare and Sebastian will have in store for us next.

*SPOILERS* CoLS EPILOGUE

I know we have been talking a lot about the movie lately, but with no new information for another week or two, I thought I would toss out some opinions about the epilogue of CoLS. There are several different “scenes” in the epilogue, and I will try to touch on each. Okay spoilers start… now!

So first we have Jace.  Jace who was just stabbed now wakes up only to find that he is, in fact, glowing. I don’t know about you, but that would freak me out a little. Or maybe a lot. Then the poor boy has to be basically what can only assume is close to interrogated by the Silent Brothers, which, by the way, are one of the only things that freak him out! (Besides maybe ducks. ) So then, I think it is the sweetest thing that he practiced the speech in front of the mirror… I really don’t think he was joking! Poor guy has to be careful of touching his girlfriend… you can throw Paris and the club out the window. But he comes back sweet and cocky and sarcastic as ever. What is not to love? If I were Sebastian, I would be afraid.

Then there is Brother Zachariah. Short and sweet, I have thought for a while now he was Will Herondale, but I know now! If he knows so much about that family, loved two people so much… I just want to throw a duck at him to test the theory! Haha or… what if Cassie just wants us to think that so she can throw in some crazy plot twist in Infernal Devices, and it is Jem, not Will? Ugh! Okay until someone gets me a duck… I guess I won’t know.

Then… we have Alec. I was so proud of him and Magnus throughout the book. They made it through so much. And then, the break-up. The sad thing is, Magnus really did not want to do it. He said he still loves him. Honestly though, I am on Magnus’ side; that is not Alec’s choice to make. I do not have the slightest clue how they will get on without him. He kinda does the first step for everything.  EVERYTHING! I guess we wait and see.

Okay, glad Camille is dead, but Maureen is kinda… um.. psychotic little girl.

I am coming.

A controversial scene in City of Lost Souls has earned Cassandra Clare and the fans defending her quite a bit of backlash. People have criticized the general inclusion of the scene and the characters involved.

While the scene is extreme, Casandra Clare has come forward to explain why the scene was included, defend her characters, and talk about the culture and myths that keep most of society from accepting that these things really do happen, whether she writes about them or not. It’s quite a strong article and even if you don’t like the scene, it makes it much easier to see what compelled Cassandra to write it in.

Here’s an amazing book cover that deviantART user Clabrice made last year. This was before the actual cover was released. We think this is really well done. And I wouldn’t mind seeing Izzy and Alec on an actual cover, to be honest. (:

This is my fanmade cover of Cassandra Clare’s “City of Lost Souls”, which will be released May of next year. I just always wanted to make a cover for this series so I finally gave it a shot.

This is based on the new cover style and I used the cover of “City of Fallen Angels” as inspiration. God so much editing! I couldn’t find the right font for the life of me so I had to find something similar. And of course I had to mess around with the “of” to get it to look like that. The base is the promo cover that has already been released but I added the picture of New York at the bottom. Had to add the red oval too. Honestly the easiest part about this was the swirling lights. The runes were easier than expected too.

The characters here are supposed to be Alec and Isabelle. We have Alec all bundled in a black sweater- Then we have Isabelle looking sexy and confident in a cocktail dress. I have no idea who I actually used as the characters because I couldn’t find names but I just thought they were more or less perfect, though I still had to edit their appearance a bit. All I had to do for Alec was make him paler and make his sweater darker but with Isabelle I had to make her paler, make her hair black, add lipstick, I even bothered to add her trademark ruby necklace. (I think it’s a nice reference to the Morgenstern family necklace on the CoFA cover). Also added what is supposed to be her whip, coiling around her arm and around her left wrist. I wasn’t thinking about doing it at first but I thought “Hey! It’s Izzy”, so I went ahead. Luckily it came out pretty cool, or so I think :P

It’s very… dark. But the title is “City of LOST SOULS” so I figure it fits and am not too worried about it. All in all I’m actually very proud of my work here.

EDIT: Turned out to look nothing like the official cover but you know what? Still happy with it XD

I’m absolutely in LOVE with this cover. Even though I love seeing Jace and Clary on the actually cover, this one is nice, too. And that purple color adds a nice touch. It really hints at how dark the book is. Also, nice job with adding Izzy’s necklace. It’s so great when fans pay attention to detail. :)  A+!

Well, well, well. Isn’t this exciting! Not only is Cassie going to get a lot of attention, but hopefully the book series will as well. We’re really hoping more people will start reading The Mortal Instruments before the film comes out next year.

Hell yeah! All of the other new releases can kiss my butt! I mean-uh-nevermind. :)

Deleted Scene from ‘City of Lost Souls’ and Will’s Letter to His Family

Cassandra Clare has given us two gifts. One of them being a deleted scene from City of Lost Souls (involving Alec and Magnus), and the other is Will’s letter he writes to his family (which was an extra in Clockwork Prince). Cassie said that she’d share some other special content that was in special editions of Clockwork Prince in the next few days.

After Reading ‘City of Lost Souls’

I’m not going to post any spoiler-ridden reviews of the book, don’t worry! But I finished the book today. After I finished, I put it down. And then I looked at the wall in my living room. And I looked at it for three hours. Partially because I didn’t know how to process the fact that I’d finished the book already and I had to wait for the next and final book to come out. And partially because I didn’t know how to process the actual book.

Cassandra Clare never ceases to amaze me. And, to be frank, she has balls. Some of the things she writes about are out there, and many authors wouldn’t have the guts to do it. In City of Lost Souls, a certain character is described as someone who does things because she wants to, even if she shouldn’t. Even if everyone tells her she shouldn’t. She does what she wants and no one can stop her. I feel like Cassie does that as well. There’s always something getting in the way of what you love in life. It may not be as dramatic as what happens in The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, but it’s bound to happen at least once in your life. And I have a feeling that many things in the universe try to get in the way of Cassie and what she does. Some people may try to discourage her. She still does it. I love her so much.

I don’t really know how to explain the book. It was….unexpected? It felt different. Pretty emotional. My stomach churned a lot. My favorite character at the moment, who I will not reveal right now because of reasons, drew me in SO MUCH. Even if they might have given me some emotions I shouldn’t have had.

There were parallels between TMI and TID that made me way more excited than I should I have been. There is also a brief appearance from a certain character included in The Dark Artifices.

All I have to say is Cassandra Clare has set up this story so that a bunch of crazy shit will happen in the last book. I know it will be well worth the wait. I won’t say that City of Lost Souls is my favorite in the series, my heart is still with City of Glass. But it was very good. Very, very good. Very. Good.

Are you ready to have your heart broken, your emotions rung out like an old rag, your favorites defeated, and your hope go on a rollercoaster ride? My copy will be uploaded to my nook at midnight California time. I for one don’t know if I am ready! I have heard several interesting theories lately that I will be keeping in mind whilst reading. As soon as I finish I will *without spoilers for a week or two* post my opinions and new theories and observations. I have also been looking into connections between TMI and TID and have a big blog post on that that I think y’all will love. Looks like an all nighter is about to begin for me! I have two more chapters to finish up of my reread of CoFA and then I read CoLS all night. Can fanart be spoilery? I am not sure exactly. I decided this would be the last snippet of City of Lost Souls before the release tomorrow. Enjoy it and the art by Charlotte (Street-Angel) that illustrates the scene.

So this was what her brother looked like. Really looked like. A pale face, all angles and planes, tall and slim in black gear. His hair was silvery-white, not dark as it had been when she had first seen him, dyed to match the color of the real Sebastian Verlac’s. His own pale color suited him better. His eyes were black and snapping with life and energy.

 Standing beside him, his golden hair shimmering in the pale sunlight, was Jace. But not the Jace Clary had imagined so often over the past two weeks …

Alright guys, so this is it! Tomorrow, City of Lost Souls will be available for purchase. Can’t wait to read it, and we’re sure you can’t either!

To lighten our moods, Clare has given us quite the funny exchange between Simon and Alec, discussing just how valuable Magnus Bane really is!

Simon rolled his eyes. “It’s a good thing we know the person who’s dating Magnus Bane,” he said. “Otherwise, I get the feeling we’d all just lie around all the time wondering what the hell to do next. Or trying to raise the money to hire him by selling lemonade or something.”

Alec looked merely irritated by this comment. “The only way you could raise enough money to hire Magnus by selling lemonade is if you put meth in it.”

Rune Countdown

As I am sure we all know, there is only FOUR DAYS LEFT until City of Lost Souls is released. I know I am not the only one to pre-order my copy already. :) So the question many people have thrown my way is “What am I supposed to for the longest four days of my life since The Clockwork Prince release?” Well I have good news, I have an answer! I know some of these have been shared here before, but they are so great you need to hear them again. Some of course are new and exciting things you may not have thought of yet. Are you ready for your crash course in passing time, the TMIFandom way?

1. Re-read the series.
You may be saying, “Now hold up, four books in four days? This is TMI, not Harry Potter! We don’t have magic.” Okay good point. Around four hundred pages a day is a lot to ask. Here is what you can do. Today, pick up City of Bones. Read the first chapter, three of your favorite chapters from the middle, and the last chapter. Tomorrow, rinse, and repeat with City of Ashes and so on. This will get you in a mood to read our newest piece of gold when it is released.

2. Wiki
Google the plot for all of the first four books individually. This will remind you of the little subplots and the big details that you need to remember in order to understand CoLS completely.

3. Fan Fiction
Get your butt on that site if you haven’t already! Look, I will make it easy: http://www.fanfiction.net . Now you have no excuse not to read how fans think it all goes behind the scenes.

4. Rune it up!
Get creative! Whether it is drawing a new one on your arms each day, doing your nails to give you strength,  or making cards for friends with the ones they need on them, just do something. It will remind you of your appreciation for the series and put it in the front of your mind.

5 Days Until CoLS

As the days pass (slowly but surely), my stomach does somersaults at random moments because my brain just keeps going back to one thing: City of Lost Souls. I haven’t been this excited for a TMI book since I first read City of Bones and had to wait for City of Ashes to be released. Of course, on May 8 I will attempt to read the book as quickly as possible (whilst still comprehending, of course) in order to give you a guys an acceptable review. Don’t worry! If you don’t want spoilers, I will add them to a separate part of the post when the time comes.

There’s only one way I can describe this feeling. And I’d say that it’s very close to the one I get when my birthday is in a week and I know my mom is taking me on a trip to some bitchin’ place, but I don’t know where exactly. I only know that I’m going, and that I’m going with people I love. That’s what it feels like. :)

While trying to get through the next few days, here are some things you should try:

1. Re-read City of Fallen Angels. I’m pretty sure you guys already have, but it really doesn’t get old.

2. Write some fan-fiction. What better way to let your creative juices flow whilst in a Shadowhunter-y mood?

3. Re-watch the COLS book trailer. C’mon, don’t lie. You know it gets your heart pumping. ;) To watch it, click here.

4. Be a Shadowhunter. You think I’m crazy? Well, I’m not. Draw on some Runes and go kick some demon butt! (This is a really good idea and you should definitely do this. It gets you in the mood for a new book, I swear.)

I’m right here with you, waiting.

To quote West Side Story (a musical I absolutely abhor, but this quote is relevant):

“Today, the minutes seem like hours. The hours go so slowly.”
